Angling Report - Lake St. Clair, WA - 03/20/21

Posted by admin on March 20, 2021

My partner and I headed out with high hopes to Lake St. Clair down near Olympia. This was our first time fishing this lake.  We were there because Western Bass a semi-local bassin club was having a "fish-In."  This is just a fancy way of saying a fake tournament open to everyone to come out, have fun and introduce people to the club to grow their membership. Well, The weather was less than favorable with air temps in the low to mid 40's warming to maybe 50 by the time we left.  However, there was a persistent cold breeze, cold enough to send chills down your spine.  The rain and overcast conditions did not make matters any better. Not a single boat caught a bass! Not one. Crazy to me.  We were beginning to think this lake had no fish.  It seemed like every fish in that lake had to be tucked up under a dock or so close to the bottom our electronics could not pick them up. I did manage to get two bites early on in the morning flipping a 3/8 black and blue jig with a chunk style trailer. The bites were very subtle and the bass were not inhaling the jig. Just grabbing on to the trailer. If it was not for those two bites I would have probably packed it in much earlier than 2:30 when we did finally give up. I did boat 1 fish. A nice rainbow trout caught on a shakey head.  That's it for this report. We will have to re-visit this lake soon as the thousands of lay downs on this lake are quite irresistible.  I am a flipping/pitching fanatic...
